KWZT Studio is a furniture and tableware design studio nestled in the scenic Hudson Valley, New York. Influenced by a fusion of contemporary furniture design and traditional East Asian craftsmanship, each piece at KWZT is designed and handcrafted by Weizitong Kong.
Born and raised in eastern China, Weizitong displayed a natural talent and deep passion for painting and crafts from a young age. As he grew, he pursued studies in painting and film at art school while cultivating a strong interest in traditional Asian crafts. In 2014, he moved to New York City to pursue an MFA in Fine Art Photography. During his studies, he discovered a fascination with sculptural objects that bridged art and function—sculptures evoking domestic furniture while incorporating image collages inspired by daily life. This concept of “functional sculpture,” combined with his enduring passion for traditional Asian craftsmanship—particularly vessel-making—led him to fully dedicate himself to furniture and tableware design in 2019.
Rooted in the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley, Weizitong’s work explores the relationship between humans and nature, as well as the quiet elegance of everyday life. His designs are characterized by an interplay of diverse natural materials and textures, with each handcrafted piece telling its own story through exquisite attention to detail and craftsmanship.
